a gathering of images for the cross-quarter sacred time at the portal into winter

an early morning in early February
This cross-quarter day celebrates the return of life in the Northern Hemisphere.
Seeds in the ground begin stirring and swelling with new potential.
The goddess is a very young maiden waking up from restorative winter dreams.
In this first of four seasonal visits to the sacred edge of land and sea,
at Limantour Beach, we will offer gratitude for another turn of the wheel.
We'll notice signs and omens--sandpipers, wave patterns, sky effects, and more.
We open to and welcome what arrives, with no particular expectation.
Humbly taking instruction from the living world. Listening to Gaia.
Consider making this the first of a four-part pilgrimmage for the year--
to the same sacred location, to participate in the pulse of the seasons.

early May mid-morning
Celebrate the cross-quarter day at the threshold of summer... when the living world is fertile and eager to produce a new generation of food plants, wild plants, animal life, algae, microbes, and more.
What do you want to fertilize and incubate and generate this year?
Who will be your ally in this? Is there instruction waiting for you, at Limantour?

an evening in late July or early August
In order to bring a full harvest to fruition (around the September equinox), in mid-summer the farmer must winnow out excess and clear some weeds so that nourishing crops have plenty of room to grow.
At this threshold of autumn in the North, we claim and cherish what we have nurtured during the year. To feed our best offerings we may discard something that's in the way.
Imagine an effigy you create... transformed in a small driftwood fire or carried away by the generous ocean.

samhain

into dusk in early November
At the entry to winter in the Northern Hemisphere, the living Earth relaxes into the cycle of death and rebirth. Humans cozy up to the firelight and live on the stored nutrients from the year's growing cycle. Deep rest, and dreams, are natural.
Samhain is the mystery time of year, when the veil between living and dying is delicate. It's twilight: we may “see" ... with two kinds of vision.
Our gathering will center on prayers for a safe journey through the dark-and-dream time... and yielding with grace to Gaia's perpetual rhythm. We'll watch the sun set and welcome the dark's embrace, around a little fire in the sand.
